At No Five Trees I guided startups through funding rounds for years. What I kept seeing wasn't founders making bad decisions. They were making plans: forecasts, scenarios, a model for the next round. But almost nobody could hold that plan up against reality, because the bookkeeping simply wasn't set up for it. What you get is a plan that stands on its own, and an administration that only adds up after the fact.

That isn't merely inconvenient, it costs you where it hurts most. You find out too late that an assumption doesn't hold. You go into a round with numbers you can't fully defend yourself. And an investor who doubts whether you're in control is doubting more than your bookkeeping.

That's why we started De Startup Accountant. We don't automate the administration to be cheaper at it, but to put our attention where it actually pays off: does your runway still hold, is your margin drifting from your plan, are you ready for the questions that come up in due diligence. Your books are current every day, your plan sits next to them, and you and your investors are looking at the same figures.

You're not paying us to keep your books. That's the least a bookkeeper should do. You're paying to know every month where you stand. And to be able to back it up when it counts.
